  • AN-74 was designed to be used on the Arctic and Antarctica mid- and long-range routes in all climate conditions with temperatures ranging from −60 °C to +45 °C in any locations including the North Pole and mountainous areas;
  • AN-74 conducts air escort of vessels, organization and servicing of drifting stations, research works in the Arctic and Antarctica as well as reconnaissance and intelligence missions;
  • Russian strategic base in the Arctic (Temp airfield, Kotelny Island, New Siberian Islands (75° 27′ 31″ N, 140° 50′ 35″ E), re-opened in October 2013) serviced exclusively by AN-72 and AN-74;
  • AN-74 has rich experience of polar flights and using drifting ice platforms as airfields (for example, flight to the Barneo ice camp – from 88.5 to 89.5 parallel, from 90 to 140 longitude  (average daily drift in the Barneo area: 7-9 km per day);
  • In November 2003, Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company (KSAMC) won a tender to deliver AN-74T-200A to the Egyptian Air Force. Other tender participants included С-295 (Spain), CASA - Airbus Military)С-27J Spartan (Italy, Alenia Aermacchi)
